Liverpool score late, earn draw against Newcastle United
The Premier League season begins with Newcastle United hosting Liverpool. In the second minute, Florian Wirtz has a shot, but it is blocked. In the fourth minute, Lewis Hall steals the ball away from Isak in the box. In the fifth minute, on the fast break, William Osula finds Anthony Elanga with a through ball for a Newcastle goal. In the ninth minute, Van Dijk's header is deflected behind, then Szoboszlai sees a corner cleared away.
In the 18th minute, Hornícek saves a Wirtz bottom-right corner shot. In the 24th minute, Osula sees an attempt smothered by Alisson, who is very active off his line today. In the 29th minute, Kerkez tries his luck, but the keeper has no problems with it. In the 30th minute, both Liverpool full-backs (Kerkez and Frimpong) have already been booked. In the 38th minute, Wirtz plays an inviting ball for Szoboszlai; the Newcastle defenders step in just in time.

In the 48th minute, Lewis Miley has a chance, and he shoots it over the crossbar. In the 55th minute, Ryan Gravenberch finds Cody Gapko, who takes a shot outside of the box and it goes into the bottom left corner. The game is now tied 1-1. In the 56th minute, Newcastle makes two subs: Jacob Ramsey on for Sean Steur and Joe Willock on for William Osula. In the 57th minute, Liverpool had three shots blocked and then on the fast break, Yoane Wissa finds Joe Willock, and he gives Newcastle the lead again.
In the 63rd minute, Liverpool made two subs: Víctor Muñoz comes on for Rio Ngumoha and Alexis Mac Allister comes on for Florian Wirtz. In the 68th minute, Anthony Elanga‘s shot from outside of the box was saved by Alisson. In the 70th minute, Ronald Araujo comes on for Jérémy Jacquet for Liverpool. In the 76th minute, Newcastle made two subs: Jacob Murphy comes on for Anthony Elanga, and Aladji Bamba comes on for Lewis Miley. And for Liverpool, Lewis Koumas comes on for Ryan Gravenberch. In the 85th minute, Alexander Isak‘s header is saved by Lukás Hornícek.
In the 96th minute, Victor Muñoz was fouled in the box and got a penalty out of it. Szoboszlai converted the penalty and tied the game with no time left. The game ended with a 2-2 draw. Liverpool are lucky they got a point because the stats show that Liverpool dominated possession, EG, more corners won and more accurate passes.
