Man City scores two late, win at home against Bournemouth
To start the Premier League season, Manchester City hosts AFC Bournemouth at the Etihad. An early chance saw Bournemouth's Petrovic make a save for a corner, which saw a header go out of play for a goal kick. Almost ten minutes later, O’Reilly found Haaland in front of the goal, who someone didn’t score. Rayan gets the first opportunity for Bournemouth, but it’s saved by Donnarumma. A goal is scored by Marcus Tavernier, who taps it home thanks to a superb pass by Evanilson in the 26th minute.
Bournemouth have another chance but were cut out beautifully by Gvardiol in the 32nd minute. Man City didn’t have a real shot from the fourth minute until Haaland guided a header to the bottom corner, but saved by Petrovic. In the 40th and 41st minutes, Tavernier and Kluivert both almost scored as they missed opportunities to double their Bournemouth lead. Maresca did not have an ideal first half in his first PL game in charge at Man City.

The first chance belonged to Man City in the 51st minute, Anderson crosses to Guehi, who somehow heads it wide. In the 57th minute, Man City as Nunes comes on for Lewis. Nunes makes an immediate impact as he crosses to Semenyo, but he mistimes his volley. The 63rd minute brought us two Man City substitutions: Cherki on for O'Reilly and Kovacic on for Anderson. In the 67th minute, Semenyo plays a 1-2 with Cherki, and he aims for the far corner, and Petrovic saves it.
In the 72nd minute, Cherki finds Haaland in the box, but he shoots it over the crossbar. Then in the 75th minute, Guehi finds Haaland in the box, but he can’t find his boot around the ball, and Petrovic picks it up. Three Bournemouth changes in the 75th minute: Jebbison on for Evanilson, Toth on for Kluivert, and Adams on for Cook. In the 78th minute, City's Foden is booked for a late challenge on Jebbison. In the next minute, Jebbison almost doubles Bournemouth’s lead with a beautiful header, but Donnarumma saves Man City.

In the 82nd minute, Man City makes another change as Grealish comes on for Foden. In the 84th minute, Cherki crosses in the corner, and Guehi makes up for his earlier miss and heads it in. In the 89th minute, Bournemouth make another change as Gannon-Doak comes on for Rayan. The officials gave three extra minutes. Man City scores a second, but Gvardiol is offside; VAR says the goal stands, and Cherki gets his second assist of the day. The Cherki substitution looks better and better by Maresca.
Man City wins 2-1 after two late goals by Guehi and Gvardiol, both assisted by Cherki. Man City had a 2.35 EG, with 66% possession, 568 accurate passes, five more corners won, and four more big chances created.
