The Golden State Valkyries outlast the Lynx on the road

The Golden State Valkyries (25-11) travelled to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Lynx (31-7) on Monday night. Over the first four minutes, the Lynx started the game on an 8-0 run. Then by the 2:53 mark, the Lynx were still leading and led 13-8. The Valkyries closed the first quarter on a 9-3 run and took a 17-16 lead heading into the second.


A back-and-forth second quarter saw the teams take the lead, then the other tying it just like that. The Valkyries managed to grow the lead to 31-25 at the 3:11 mark. The Lynx cut the lead to 34-32 at halftime. The Valkyries grew the lead to four multiple times before taking a 49-42 lead at the 2:59 mark in the third quarter. The lead grew to 54-44 by the 1:35 mark, and the Valkyries led 55-48 heading into the fourth quarter.

The first four minutes of the fourth quarter saw the lead stay between seven and ten points until a three-pointer took the lead to 68-57 in favor of the Valkyries. By the 3:49 mark, the Valkyries' lead grew to 74-58. And the lead stayed around the 16-point mark until the final buzzer. The Valkyries won 80-66.


The Valkyries saw five players play great, including Cecilia Zandalasini with 18 points, Gabby Williams with 15 points and five rebounds, Tiffany Hayes with 14 points and four assists, and Veronica Burton with 14 points, nine assists, five steals, and four rebounds. Next up is the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night.


The Lynx did not have the best shooting day; Natasha Howard (13 points and seven rebounds) and Kayla McBride (12 points, four rebounds, and four assists) scored in double digits. Next up for the Minnesota Lynx is playing at the Atlanta Dream on Sunday night.
