Los Angeles Sparks use a second half comeback to win against the Mystics

The second game of the 10 pm EST games was the Washington Mystics (24-15) and the Los Angeles Sparks. The first quarter saw the Sparks take an 8-2 lead within the first two minutes. The Mystics responded and had the game tied at 13 at the 5:41 mark. This one was tied at 23 at the end of the first quarter.


The second quarter started slow, then the Mystics turned on the engines and went up 32-25 at the 6:08 mark. The lead for the Mystics went to 42-30 at the 3:28 mark. The Mystics’ lead grew to 49-32 at the 1:19 mark, and then the Mystics led 51-40 at halftime.


Over the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Sparks went on a 16-5 run, clawing themselves back in the game. Then after that, the game went back and forth for the rest of the quarter. The Mystics led 68-65 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw the same thing that the end of the third quarter brought. The game was tied at 76 with 5:33 left. Over the next two minutes, the Sparks went on a 9-2 run to take an 85-78 lead. Down the stretch, the Sparks stayed in control and won 88-82.


Nneka Ogwumike led the way with 24 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Rae Burrell had 15 points, and Cameron Brink had 13 points and five rebounds. Next up for the Sparks is a road game against the Seattle Storm on Sunday night.


Sonia Citron led the scoring for the Mystics with 22 points. Shakira Austin had 19 points and ten rebounds, while Kiki Ifiafen had 12 points and ten rebounds. Next up for the Mystics is a road game at the Chicago Sky on September 17th.
