New York Liberty win against the Sky behind Han Xu's 19 points

The early game today was between the New York Liberty (23-16) and the Chicago Sky (15-24). The Sky started the game up 7-2 before the Liberty responded to take a 12-9 lead at the 4:58 mark. The Liberty closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 21-11 lead into the second quarter.


The second quarter began with a 6-3 run by the Liberty, extending their lead to 28-14. Back-and-forth scoring kept the Liberty lead in double digits for the rest of the quarter. The Liberty led 42-28 at halftime.


The third quarter was similar to the second quarter until the 3:17 mark, when the Liberty scored nine straight to take a 60-40 lead. The Liberty led 60-43 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was a replica of the third quarter. The Liberty extended their lead to 24, then the Sky cut the lead to 17 by the 3:19 mark. The points were quiet from there, and the Liberty won 85-66.


Han Xu led scoring for the Liberty with 19 points and had five rebounds. Breanna Stewart had 13 points and nine rebounds. Jonquel Jones, Leonie Fiebich, and Rebekah Gardner each had 11 points on the day. Next up for the Liberty is September 18th at the Minnesota Lynx after the FIBA World Cup.


Natasha Cloud had 14 points, while Sydney Taylor had 13 points. Those were the only two in double digits on the day. Next up for the Sky is September 17th, hosting the Washington Mystics after the FIBA World Cup.
